NHL News: Maple Leafs Lose Cayden Primeau Through Waivers

Cayden Primeau, Toronto Maple Leafs

Cayden Primeau's time with the Toronto Maple Leafs has officially come to an end.

This is because Primeau has been claimed off waivers by the Carolina Hurricanes, as reported by TSN's Chris Johnston.

Seeing the Hurricanes claim Primeau off of waivers is not surprising in the slightest. The Hurricanes lost Primeau through waivers before the start of the 2025-26 season to the Maple Leafs, so it is entirely understandable that they have brought him back.

The Hurricanes acquired Primeau from the Montreal Canadiens during the off-season in exchange for a seventh-round pick. This was after he had a 2-3-1 record, a .836 save percentage, and a 4.70 goals-against average in 11 games with the Canadiens this past season. He also played in 26 AHL games with the Laval Rocket this past season, where he posted a 21-2-2 record, a .927 save percentage, and a 1.96 goals-against average.

With the Hurricanes bringing back Primeau, he will now give them another depth goaltender who has NHL experience.

In three games this season with the Maple Leafs, Primeau posted a 2-1-0 record, a .838 save percentage, and a 4.30 goals-against average.
