NHL Trade Rumors: Boston Bruins Receiving Trade Offers

The Boston Bruins are making some surprising lineup decisions early on this season, and it's starting to get the attention of other teams.

Defenceman Mason Lohrei has been scratched for four games in a row, and now hockey insider Elliotte Friedman commented on the potential of trade talks picking up in Boston. Friedman wrote about Lohrei in his latest 32 Thoughts blog:

I don’t know that there’s anything going on trade-wise with Mason Lohrei. But I do know that when a talented, young player like him sits four games in a row, others call and ask what’s up.

Lohrei, 24, has two seasons left on his contract at $3.2 million AAV, before he becomes a restricted free agent. The two-way blueliner has appeared in 11 games this season, scoring 1 goal and five assists. He's averaging 18:06 of ice-time per game, including close to two minutes a night on the power play.

Lohrei had a breakout season last year, recording five goals and 33 points in 77 games. He played a career high 19:31 a night, and was a force on the power play, while also playing a depth role as a penalty killer.

The Bruins are off to a 8-7-0 start, sit in the first wild-card position in the Eastern Conference, and if they are going to make a trade involving a defenceman, it's likely going to be Nikita Zadorov instead. 'Big Z' has four seasons left on his contract at $5 million AAV, however this season, holds a full no-trade clause and has complete say in the matter. In July, this trade protection goes down to half, be it a 16-team no-trade clause on Zadorov's contract.

For now, Lohrei sits, and teams are starting to wonder why, and pitch trade offers to the Bruins' management team.
