Report: Flames' Nazem Kadri Will Deny Trade to Carolina Hurricanes

Sorry, Carolina Hurricanes, you'll apparently have to look elsewhere to upgrade your top six. Word is the Hurricanes have trade interest in Calgary Flames forward Nazem Kadri, however, Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos reports that the Hurricanes are on Kadri's no-trade list.

Kadri, 35, is a hot target amongst the trade market this season, and there's a very good chance he gets dealt, it just reportedly won't be to Carolina, even though the Hurricanes would love to get their hands on him. The veteran center has three seasons left on his current deal at $7 million AAV, and given Carolina's cap space, they could easily add Kadri without having to move anyone off their roster.

“Kadri has been linked to multiple teams, but we have to specifically mention the Carolina Hurricanes, who have been in a relentless pursuit for a top player since falling short on Mikko Rantanen and Mitch Marner last season,” Kypreos wrote in his column. “For now, the Hurricanes seem an unlikely destination for Kadri, as they are on his 13-team no-trade list.”

The Flames are expected to move Kadri, and it could wind up being within Canada, to the Canucks or Canadiens, or back to the Colorado Avalanche.

As for the Hurricanes, GM Eric Tulsky recently confirmed they will be aggressive, and try to upgrade their roster ahead of this season's trade deadline:

“We’re always looking to get better,” Tulsky told The Athletic last week. “We’re going to look at everything that comes up, whether something gets labeled as big-game hunting or sort of more routine moves. That’s a matter of how the media and fans want to see it. But we’re just looking for anything we can find that’ll make our team better. I think every team wants to bring stars if they can. Stars are hard to come by. If we see an opportunity to get a player, a star almost always makes your team better and so it’s always going to be something we’re talking about.”

While they may not be doing any business together, keep tabs on the Flames and Hurricanes, as both teams will be busy this season.
