Carolina Hurricanes monitoring the goalie trade market
The Carolina Hurricanes are a team to watch this season on the trade market, as they have loads of cap space, and an aggressive general manager who is looking to push his team finally over the top, and into the Stanley Cup Final.
According to multiple reports, including from hockey insider Frank Seravalli, don't be surprised to see the Hurricanes make a move to strengthen their goaltending situation:
Frank Seravalli: Re Hurricanes: I think they're definitely monitoring the goaltending market; my concern would be that they don't wanna spend a lot at goaltending, it's not something they wanna throw massive assets at - Insider Notebook (11/3)
The Hurricanes have Frederik Andersen, and Pyotr Kochetkov, who is recently returning from injury, so they have two solid options at the moment, but given both of their injury troubles, it makes complete sense for the Hurricanes to be aggressive on the trade market. The question becomes, what can they trade? GM Eric Tulsky will have to move some prospects out, or young roster players, as the 'Canes only have their first-rounder in 2026, and two sixth-round picks.
As far as targets go, Devon Levi from the Buffalo Sabres could be an option, Jordan Binnington from the St. Louis Blues, as well as Devin Cooley from the Calgary Flames.
The Hurricanes are going to be aggressive, there's no doubt about it. Expect to see at least one significant trade from them this season, and don't be surprised if a goaltender is coming in to add to their depth in net.
The Carolina Hurricanes are looking to possibly make a trade for a defenseman following injuries to key players. And what do they do with Brandon Bussi now that Pyotr Kochetkov is healthy? 👀
