NHL Rumors: Free Agent Robby Fabbri to Sign With NHL Team Soon

It appears Robby Fabbri may soon find a new NHL home.

According to insider Elliotte Friedman, there is expected to be a landing spot for the free-agent forward in the near future, though one rumored destination, the Ottawa Senatorsis reportedly no longer in the running.

Fabbri, who began the year on a PTO with the Pittsburgh Penguins, has remained unsigned since failing to secure a roster spot out of training camp, but growing league interest suggests movement is coming.

Detroit Reunion Still Makes Sense

Fabbri’s name has recently resurfaced in Detroit Red Wings circles, as multiple reports suggest Steve Yzerman should consider bringing the 29-year-old back to help strengthen depth scoring.

Detroit’s top line has carried the load offensively this season, while the bottom six has struggled to produce consistently. Fabbri’s familiarity with the organization and proven ability to generate offense in sheltered minutes make him an appealing low-risk option, especially if he can be signed at a league-minimum contract.

He recorded 18 goals with Detroit just two seasons ago before injuries derailed his momentum.

Injury History Creates Risk, But Fit Remains Clear

The concern, as always, is durability. Fabbri has endured three ACL tears and missed significant time throughout his career, contributing to his inconsistent market value.

Despite that, he remains a respected locker-room presence and has shown he can contribute in power-play or penalty-kill roles when healthy.
