St. Louis Blues 'open for business' on trade market
Changes are a brewing for the St. Louis Blues.
General manager Doug Armstrong is not happy with the team's struggles to start the new season, and according to hockey insider Frank Seravalli, the Blues are open for business on the trade market.
St. Louis enters Saturday's action with a 5-8-2 record, sitting second last in the Western Conference, ahead of the dismal Calgary Flames. Armstrong has been making his rounds to scout some players for Team Canada's Olympic team, but in the same process, has been able to travel to different rinks to speak with executives around the league, gauging exactly what the trade market would be for several of his players.
Jordan Kyrou's name has jumped off the board recently, as the expensive forward was a healthy scratch last game and it hasn't necessarily been a rock solid relationship between him and the franchise. Kyrou is signed at $8.12 million AAV through the 2030-31 season, and is coming off a 36-goal, 70-point season. However, so far this year, it hasn't been the same story, as Kyrou has just four goals and eight points in 14 games, and for now, has lost the trust of head coach Jim Montgomery.
Brayden Schenn's name has been out there, and there's no doubt trade talks are ongoing for him. It's going to take a significant offer for Armstrong to move his captain, especially with Kyrou sitting there for other teams, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. The Vancouver Canucks make a ton of sense for Schenn, as he's a western Canadian kid, they have a dyer need for another center, and Patrik Allvin hasn't been shy to make significant trades at any point of the season.
Kyrou and Schenn seem like the first two to go, with goaltender Jordan Binnington someone else to look out for on the trade market. The Edmonton Oilers make a ton of sense and it will be interesting to see how Binnington's future plays out with the franchise, during an Olympic season of all things.
