Canucks GM doesn't feel there's a 'culture' problem in Vancouver
Vancouver Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin isn't giving into the false narratives.
There's been plenty of buzz around the team after Quinn Hughes told management a few weeks ago he was not going to re-sign, and while the trade talks picked up in a major way, Allvin doesn't feel his team has a culture issue. Not one bit.
Allvin spoke to the media and opened up about what's been going on in Vancouver lately:
I don't believe (we have a culture problem)," Allvin told reporters Friday. "I don't think that's the reason why Quinn Hughes is traded here today. I have a lot of respect for J.T. Miller as well, what he went through on his personal side. We're very excited with the leadership group and what (head coach) Adam (Foote) is building here, the players we got in through the draft over the last couple of years, and how they integrated with our team here.
While Hughes has been dominating headlines in Vancouver since the summer, when Jim Rutherford admitted his captain told him he'd like to eventually play for New Jersey, the Canucks aren't ready to give in that they have bigger issues.
Which is quite the stance considering last season there was a huge riff between Elias Pettersson and J.T MIller, and former head coach Rick Tocchet decided to leave the team and head to Philly. It's hard to convince people there's no underlying issues within the dressing room.
You probably go back even a year ago, when this started to come to our attention that this might be the path that Quinn wants to go," Allvin said. "We were hoping, the ownership was trying to do everything, and we were trying to do everything to convince him to stay and work through it. But we felt that when we were not able to do it, that's where we started the process of looking to see what potential destinations would be out there and what potential teams that could come up with the best return for the Vancouver Canucks moving forward.
Allvin called moving his captain a tough, tough day, and now we wait to see if the players they got back for Hughes can fill any of the massive void he left heading to Minny.
