Flames' Ramus Andersson on contract extension: 'It takes two to tango'
It appears the Calgary Flames management team has made their decision on defenceman Rasmus Andersson, and it doesn't involve an upcoming contract extension. Andersson was a guest on After Hours with Scott Oake after the Flames game on Saturday night, and was asked about his future with the organization.
It takes two to tango, that's all I'll say.

Andersson, 29, is a pending unrestricted free agent, earning $4.5 million AAV this season. His name has been plastered all over trade rumors all season long, and it appears now we know exactly why. The team isn't interested in a long-term commitment for the mobile right-handed defenceman, and appear set to cash in on their trade asset ahead of the deadline. Some would argue with Quinn Hughes shipped to Minnesota, Andersson is the best d-man on the trade market.
The Flames are apparently looking for a one first-round pick, which would give them three for the 2026 draft, and they want a young defenceman who is either playing limited minutes in the NHL, or on the cusp of being a regular. At the end of the day, this will likely be a three for one type of trade scenario.
Andersson's recorded seven goals and 25 points in 36 games this season, is leading the Flames in minutes played, and is frankly turning into one of the better two-way defenders in the league. While Calgary would love for him to be more physical, Andersson's been making an impacting blocking shots and putting up points, which isn't a terrible combo.
The Flames are 14-17-4 on the year, only two points up from the bottom of the Western Conference, and if they move out some of their talent, could expect to be headed for the lottery next spring. Not only with Andersson be moved, but look for Nazem Kadri and Blake Coleman to also be dealt for future considerations.
