Flyers & Zamula Undecided On Future

Yegor Zamula, Philadelphia Flyers
When healthy, the Philadelphia Flyers' defense is crowded. This is why Yegor Zamula was placed on waivers less than two weeks ago. After only playing 13 games for the Flyers this season, the 25-year-old defenseman has now played two games in the AHL.

Over the past two seasons, it seemed as though Zamula solidified himself as an NHL defenseman, putting up five goals and 21 points in 66 games and three goals and 15 points in 63 games last season. He never played more than a third-pairing defenseman, but he was also young and inexperienced.

Since 2023-24 when Zamula really broke into the NHL, Noah Juulsen was signed, Jamie Drysdale was acquired in a trade with the Anaheim Ducks, Nick Seeler was re-signed, Cam York was re-signed, and Emil Andrae has graduated to almost a regular in the lineup. After an injury that kept Rasmus Ristolainen out of action for the majority of this season, he is also back in the lineup and healthy.

According to Elliotte Friedman, the Flyers and Zamula have begun discussions about the next stage of his career. Zamula's camp have offered to terminate his contract, but Philadelphia prefers to try to trade him before it gets to that stage.

Now that Zamula has passed through waivers, he can be acquired by another team without the worry of him being claimed on waivers from them after the trade. He would be able to be assigned right to their AHL team. But that also might not be the immediate plan for a team looking for a player like Zamula. It at least gives them options though.

The Flyers will surely be able to find a trade partner for Zamula to fetch them a later round pick, but one way or another, it doesn't seem like he's ending the season with the Flyers.
