NHL Rumors: Kraken Shut Down Trade Speculation Around One Player

Seattle Kraken Head Coach Lane Lambert looks on during 2025 game.

For anyone hoping for a surprise early-season trade, the Seattle Kraken have thrown cold water on the idea of moving Mason Marchment.

Elliotte Friedman said on 32 Thoughts: The Podcast that while there had been some chatter linking Marchment to teams like the Edmonton Oilers, league sources quickly shut it down.

Marchment missed Seattle’s 9–4 loss to Edmonton last week due to injury, sparking speculation, but Friedman made it clear the Kraken simply cannot afford to lose another left winger—especially with Jaden Schwartz already out long term.

Kraken shut down Marchment talk due to injuries and roster need

Seattle’s stance is that they need Marchment in the lineup. It's that simple.

As Friedman put it, once he checked into the rumors, “I had cold water poured on that one.” Marchment returned to action Saturday against Detroit, sliding into a third-line role after missing one game. With Schwartz sidelined and Seattle fighting to stay competitive, removing another impact winger from the roster is not something the team is considering.

Marchment has quietly been productive, posting 11 points, 32 shots and 34 hits in 23 games, bringing exactly the type of forechecking, heavy-shift presence Seattle relies on.

Despite speculation, no trade appears close

Elsewhere in the rumor mill, some insiders floated the idea of a potential Dallas Stars reunion if Seattle fell out of playoff contention, but Friedman’s update slows that talk.

For now, the Kraken’s injuries have closed the door on any Marchment move.
