Terrible Break for Flyers, As Tyson Foerster Goes Down Long-Term

The Philadelphia Flyers have announced that they've lost their leading goal scorer for two-to-three months. Tyson Foerster suffered an upper-body injury in the most bizarre way on Monday night.

Foerster was in pain after attempting a one-timer in Monday’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, and skated off the ice, appearing to hold his right shoulder. An MRI on Tuesday revealed the damage and the prognosis.

The 23-year-old led the Flyers with 10 goals and was off to a great start to the season, with a +7 rating and a career-best 17:27 of ice time per night. The top-line forward will be greatly missed. He's expected to be out for about the next 30 games. He had only missed a total of six contests through his first two years in the league.

Foerster has been improving his game each and every season in his three years in the NHL, on both ends of the ice. After scoring 20 goals as a rookie two seasons ago, he ramped that up to 25 goals last year, and was off to a fast start through the first quarter of the current campaign. And according to The Athletic's NHL award tracker, he also ranked sixth overall in the race for the Selke Trophy as the league's best defensive forward.

Foerster had become a favorite of new head coach Rick Tocchet. "He’s one of those guys that gets what we’re trying to do," said Tocchet.
