Timeline On A Kiefer Sherwood Deal Revealed: 'Momentum' Building Urgently
The first and most inevitable trade to be made in the NHL in the new year is undoubtedly a Kiefer Sherwood deal. The Vancouver Canucks' pending unrestricted free agent is having another strong season, and serious trade talks have been had.
According to insider David Pagnotta, speaking on the DFO Rundown, his sources tell him that the timing is right for a deal to go down any day now.
Kiefer Sherwood is a volume hitter and shooter who is on pace for over 30 goals this season. He’s been a top trade target for weeks, and now the timing finally feels right for the pending UFA to be moved.

"It sounds like, over the past few days, things have picked up... there is momentum with Kiefer Sherwood trade discussions," said Pagnotta. "(My contacts told me) 'Don't be surprised if something happens sooner rather than later.'
Insider: Sherwood trade should happen in the first week or two of January
"The Canucks don't want to put themselves in a position where they overplay their hand; Everybody knows he's available, everybody knows what the price tag is... And the teams that were circling before have re-engaged. And the two messages I got... 'Don't be surprised if something happens in the first half of January'. So, over the next week or two, maybe even sooner... It does seem like the finality of this situation is, he will be moved."
Sherwood is on pace for 33 goals and 386 hits. There isn't a playoff contender out there that couldn't use that heading into the postseason. And with an expiring cap hit of just $1.5 million, even the most cap-crunched team can find a way to make that work, no problem.
Sounds like Sherwood will be handing out his bodily punishment elsewhere, well in advance of the Olympic Break in February, never mind the trade deadline.
