Blackhawks UFAs: Insider Breaks Down Who Stays, Who Goes At Deadline

Chicago Blackhawks forward Nick Foligno

The Chicago Blackhawks have a slew of pending unrestricted free agents on their roster (six, to be exact), and we can expect to see them sell off a number of them. But not all.

The list looks like this:

  • Nick Foligno
  • Jason Dickinson
  • Ilya Mikheyev
  • Connor Murphy
  • Sam Lafferty
  • Matt Grzelcyk

"There's interest in these players, and there are teams interested to find out who's available," said insider David Pagnotta on the DFO Rundown. He says at least one of those names is more likely to be sticking around than moving on.

With respect to Mikheyev, if he becomes available, there would be a lot of teams interested in him. He's had a very good season and he's played a very strong two-way game. And Chicago knows that.

Speaking to some people with the Hawks' organization... They are going to reach out to his camp about the possibility of a contract extension. They want to figure out exactly what that's going to look like. Can they keep him contractually, and if they can reach an agreement, he's gonna stay. There is a preference on Chicago's side to keep Mikheyev.

The 31-year-old Russian does have a 12-team no-trade list.

All of the others on the list, the Blackhawks are willing to listen on. Including captain Nick Foligno.

"He's pretty much going to dictate what happens here, whether he stays or where he ends up. But there's a willingness from Chicago's end, from talking to other teams, that they're willing to listen on all their (pending UFAs)."

Foligno does not have any trade protection. Aside from Mikheyev, Murphy is the only other one of the UFA group that has any trade protection, with a 10-team no-trade list.
