Oilers' Mangiapane Linked To Struggling Team Out East
The Edmonton Oilers have inserted Andrew Mangiapane back into the lineup for the last couple of games, and he still doesn't exactly seem to fit in. The third line of Jack Roslovic, Matt Savoie, and Isaac Howard was more exciting and had better chances. With that being said, the Oilers might be trying to get Mangiapane going to get something in return in a trade, but that isn't needed.
There has been rumored interest in Mangiapane, as he is a middle-6 winger who can score and has a nasty side. There are certainly teams around the league who have been struggling with depth scoring and have a need to improve.
David Pagnotta said, "I heard that there was a conversation with Ottawa about Andrew Mangiapane to some degree. I fully believe there was at least, the subject was discussed. We'll see where that goes."
The Ottawa Senators' GM Steve Staios has been scouting around the NHL to look for trades or upgrades. While the Senators don't necessarily need an everyday player in their lineup, they will if there is another injury because there is little-to-no help beyond the top 12 forwards.
Brady Tkachuk, Shane Pinto, and Lars Eller have all missed time, and the replacements in the lineup were not NHL caliber. This included players like Kurtis MacDermid, Shephen Halliday, Olle Lycksell, Hayden Hodgson, and more. The team has won two in a row, but still has six losses in regulation in the past 10 games and is five points out of a playoff spot. There is just under half a season left and about half of that to decide what they are going to add or subtract. If they hope to get back in the race and cover their bases with some added depth, sooner than later would be a better time to act.
