Update Revealed on Brayden Point's Scary-Looking Injury

Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brayden Point is helped off the ice after a knee injury

It was a scary-looking injury. Tampa Bay Lightning star forward Brayden Point's knee was bent in an excruciatingly unnatural way when Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Cam York fell awkwardly on his right leg in Monday night's game.

And while reports on Tuesday suggested that it wasn't looking good for Point, the latest medical results indicate that he has avoided the worst-case scenario, and he should return this season.

Head coach Jon Cooper told the media on Tuesday afternoon: “We avoided the worst case scenario. His season is not over. But he is week to week."  Point avoided ligament damage to both his ACL and MCL.

It certainly didn't look good when he had to be helped off the ice after this ugly scene in the second period Monday night:

Point traveled with the Lightning to Pittsburgh, where they’re set to face the Penguins Tuesday night.

But while the Lightning are breathing a sigh of relief in the belief that they will get him back at some point this season, the same can't be said for Team Canada, as they prepare for the Winter Olympics just a few weeks from now.

The players are set to depart for Milan on Feb. 7, and Olympic teams have until the start of the tournament on Feb. 11 to make any injury replacements needed.

More on that situation and Point's status for the Games will likely follow in short order.
