Breaking: Dallas Stars Make Huge Move Ahead of Deadline with Tyler Seguin

The Dallas Stars are getting ready to pounce as the trade deadline approaches. The biggest sign of that has come Friday afternoon, as they are about to declare Tyler Seguin out for the rest of the season, including the playoffs

Friedman says the Stars have filed the paperwork to officially declare Seguin out for the entire campaign, and put him on SE-LTIR (season ending long-term injured reserve).

This move, under the new CBA rules, will earn the Stars his full $9.85M under the cap to go and spend on incoming trade pieces.

Dallas is in a heavyweight battle with the Colorado Avalanche and Minnesota Wild for supremacy in the Central Divison, and a leg up on advancing further into the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Obviously, not having Seguin for the playoff push is a huge blow, but GM Jim Nill will now have a ton of options available to him with that extra $9.85 million to spend.

Who might the Stars spend Seguin's $9.85M cap hit space on?

Names like Nazem Kadri, Robert Thomas, Jordan Kyrou, Blake Coleman and Mackenzie Weegar come to mind, among other expensive trade targets.

Seguin suffered a torn ACL on December 2nd, and underwent surgery a couple of weeks later. The 33-year-old had recorded 17 points in 27 games. He does have a history of other serious injuries in the later stages of his 16-year career, including two hip surgeries, an Achilles injury, and more.

He was holding out hope that he could possibly return in time for the playoffs, but a post-Olympic break evaluation revealed that it just wasn't in the cards.

We'll be keeping a close eye on Dallas for their next move(s).
