Breaking: Update on Kevin Fiala Confirms the Worst for LA Kings

Los Angeles Kings & Switzerland forward Kevin Fiala is stretcherd off the ice in Milan, Italy during the Olympic Games

Los Angeles Kings forward Kevin Fiala had surgery on Saturday morning after suffering a serious knee injury in Switzerland's game on Friday against Canada. It's official: his NHL season is over.

The incident occured in a collision with Canada's Tom Wilson, in which Fiala landed awkwardly. He had to be stretchered off the ice.

It's a tough break for the Kings, where Fiala was on his way to his 7th consecutive 20 goal season in the NHL. He was sitting on 18 goals and 40 points in 56 games for LA, logging a career-high 19:07 of ice time per game.

Teammate and Kings star Adrian Kempe reacted to the devastating news as you might expect.

"Obviously it’s sad, and it sucks for him and for us (Kings). Sad for him. It’s something that we’ve been looking forward our whole life coming to play here (in the Olympics) and going down like that, it’s really tough for him personally and for us as a team, how much he means to our team back home in L.A.

"Yeah, just very unfortunate for him that it comes in a tournament like this that we’ve been looking forward to playing in for so long. I feel for him.’’

The Kings will undoubtedly be hitting the trade market to look to add another forward, even after acquiring top target Artemi Panarin from the NY Rangers.
