Maple Leafs' Morgan Rielly leaves game with upper-body injury

The Toronto Maple Leafs have been bothered by the injury bug all season long, and their woes continued on Saturday night in Vancouver, as defenceman Morgan Rielly left the game due to an upper-body injury.

Rielly was injured in the second period of the Canucks' contest, and it was announced once the third period began that the mobile blueliner would not be available for the rest of the game. Jake McCabe, Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Troy Stecher ended up picking up the slack and played a ton down the stretch for the Leafs, who are already without Chris Tanev for the rest of the season.

Rielly been a trade candidate heading into the Olympics as his game has falling off a considerable amount this season. The Maple Leafs are entering the Olympic roster freeze as sellers and Brad Treliving will be discussing a wide variety of trades ahead of the March 6 trade deadline.

Rielly has yet to be asked to waive his no-movement clause, and now with the injury, depending on the timelines for him to return, that will certainly have an impact on how far along these trade talks transpire.

Against the Canucks Saturday, Rielly played 12:34 of ice-time and the 31-year-old blocked one shot, and was on the ice for both Canucks' goals to that point of the game. Rielly has seven goals and 31 points in 54 games this season, but its his play in his own zone that has everyone in Leafs Nation talking for all the wrong reasons about him.

Rielly is a -17 rating on the season, and is among the league leaders for goals against while at even strength. The Maple Leafs ended up completing the comeback without Rielly, as Auston Matthews scored the shootout winner to beat the Canucks.

An update on Rielly's timeline is expected late Sunday or early Monday morning.
