Vancouver Canucks set asking price for Evander Kane trade

The Vancouver Canucks are entering the Olympic roster freeze on Wednesday in sell mode, as trade talks continue. One player who is certainly being moved out of Vancouver is veteran winger Evander Kane, and according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Canucks have set the asking price.

Elliotte Friedman: Re Evander Kane: I think the Canucks are hoping for a 3rd round pick or something like that; they're willing to retain if it allows them to get a bit more - NHL Now (1/27)

Kane, 34, is signed for $5.1 million AAV this season, and is a pending unrestricted free agent at season's end. He holds a 16-team approved team list, that's been provided to the Canucks, so Kane certainly has some say in the matter on where he ends up for this season's playoff push.

Kane's had an up-and-down season in Vancouver, recording nine goals and 25 points in 54 games this season. He's averaging 16:48 of ice-time per game, including seeing time on the Canucks' second power-play unit.

The Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche have shown interest in Kane, and there's also been a couple of teams in the East who have reached out to see what the Canucks are thinking. If Vancouver is willing to retain 50% of Kane's remaining contract, it will allow for much more than a third-rounder to come back in the deal, and perhaps a mid-level prospect could be included, which is something the Canucks could use as they rebuild.

Keep an eye on the Canucks, they'll be busy ahead of the trade deadline in March, however, since the Olympic roster freeze is right around the corner, don't expect much movement until after the games.
