Pittsburgh Penguins Making Trade Offers

The Pittsburgh Penguins are set to join the buyers market these next couple of weeks, as Kyle Dubas is looking to add to his roster ahead of the trade deadline Mar.6.

Yes, there's a lot riding on how long Sidney Crosby will be out, which doesn't appear to be significant time, however, expect to see the Penguins land a couple of additions ahead of the deadline. Dubas has been trying to add a top-six winger and top-four defenceman, both with term on their contracts, but to this point, has had no luck. Several insiders feel with NHL action resuming this week, there should be a flurry of activity on the trade market, which could very well include the Pens.

On a recent episode of Daily Faceoff Live, Penguins play-by-play announcer Josh Getzoff joined the program and chimed in on his thoughts about what to expect from the Pens:

So, I see him potentially being active. I know they’d like to add another defenseman. I know they’d like to add to their forward group. They have some in-house solutions as far as guys in Wilkes-Barre that can come up and be productive, but do you want to make that big splash?

It’s interesting, because I think Kyle Dubas has kind of looked at this Penguins team, really over the last couple of months and thought to himself, ‘Okay, you’re giving me a reason to add.” The adds that Kyle Dubas had made…they’re lower risk kind of additions…guys like [Yegor] Chinakhov, guys throughout this lineup that have come up from Wilkes-Barre and had a lot of success as well.

The Penguins enter the post-Olympic break with over $40 million in cap space, and a ton of wiggle room to add financially. They currently own two second and third round picks for the next three drafts, so don't be surprised to see Dubas pull from some of this currency to make a splash.
