3 Offseason Trade Destinations for Flames' Zach Whitecloud

Zach Whitecloud, Calgary Flames

Calgary Flames defenseman Zach Whitecloud was a popular name in the rumor mill leading up to the 2026 NHL trade deadline. While he ended up staying with the Flames past the deadline, it would not be surprising if the Flames listened to offers for him again during the summer.

Because of this, let's look at three teams that could look to acquire Whitecloud from the Flames this offseason.

Boston Bruins

The Bruins were connected to Whitecloud ahead of the deadline, and it would make sense if they pursued him during the summer. The Bruins' blueline needs another impactful right-shot defenseman, and this will only be more of the case if they end up losing pending UFA Andrew Peeke this summer. With this, the Bruins could be a team to keep an eye on when it comes to Whitecloud.

Buffalo Sabres

The Sabres could be another team to watch when it comes to Whitecloud this offseason. While they added veteran defenseman Luke Schenn from the Winnipeg Jets at the deadline, they should still be looking to add another right-shot defenseman this summer. Whitecloud could be a strong fit on their bottom pairing and penalty kill if acquired.

San Jose Sharks

The Sharks are another team that could make sense as a landing spot for Whitecloud. It is no secret that the Sharks need to improve the right side of their defense, and Whitecloud could be a strong fit on their roster because of it. This is especially so when noting that he would be more than a rental for the Sharks, as he is signed until the end of the 2027-28 season.
