Capitals' Alex Ovechkin Becomes 2nd to Score 1,000 Goals
Alex Ovechkin continues to parade to the top of just about every NHL scoring record in history.
On Sunday, Ovechkin scored his 1,000th career goal, regular season and Stanley Cup Playoffs combined. OV joins Wayne Gretzky as the only players in history to reach the feat, as the Russian winger continues to shatter the record books.
Ovechkin made history against the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday, and just like he's done time and time again, it was his patented one-timer from the left circle to light the lamp. Ovechkin has slowed down on the ice, and is one of the slower skaters in the league, however, from his favorite spot on the ice, he's been damn near unstoppable for two decades.

The Avalanche ended up winning the game 3-2 in overtime, so the feat won't taste near as nice for Ovechkin Sunday night, but once he has a chance to hang up the skates and reflect, he'll be able to look back and enjoy another historic moment.
Gretzky owns the all-time combined goal record at 1,016, so you know Ovechkin is going to be looking to pass the Great One at some point next season. Retirement is certainly an option as well at this point, so we'll have to wait and see if Ovechkin winds up coming back for one more season in Washington and pursues the record.
For now, tip of the cap to the greatest goal scorer in NHL history. Congrats on 1000!
