3 Potential Trade Destinations for Blues' Jordan Binnington
It's starting to sound like the St. Louis Blues are going to trade veteran goaltender Jordan Binnington.
GM Doug Armstrong has been listening to trade offers on several of his core players, and there's three teams who have advanced in trade talks surrounding the Blues' netminder. Binnington has one season left on his contract at $6 million, and owns a 14-team no-trade list.
While Binnington stood on his head for Team Canada at the Olympics, he's had a tough season with the struggling Blues. Binnington's posted a 8-18-6 record, along with a 3.60 GAA and .867 Sv.%. Despite the tough record, Binnington's proved time and time again he can win the big game and his playoff experience, and intangibles in the dressing room is what teams are after.
As far as potential trade destinations go, the Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators and Philadelphia Flyers have the most interest in the veteran goaltender. The Canadiens in particular, feel like the favorite, and have the necessary trade assets to easily get the Blues what they're looking for. It may have to include Patrik Laine heading to St. Louis to help balance out the finances of the deal, as the Canadiens only have $1.3 million in cap space.
As far as other Blues go, expect to see Robert Thomas, Justin Faulk, and potentially Brayden Schenn all moved before Friday's trade deadline. It's been a tough year for the franchise, and there's no doubt Armstrong is currently contemplating at the crossroads.
The Blues fell to 21-29-9 on the year, and changes are brewing, as this long-standing core appears to be on the verge of breaking up.
