Edmonton Oilers trade Andrew Mangiapane to Chicago Blackhawks

The Edmonton Oilers have found a new home for Andrew Mangiapane.

After weeks of speculation, a demotion to the AHL for just one shift, and boatloads of rumors, Mangiapane has been dealt to the Chicago Blackhawks.

Mangiapane signed a two-year deal last offseason, and carries $3.6 million cap hit. Mangiapane should get a look in the Blackhawks' top six for the next few weeks and it could be a great place for him to hit the reset button with an up-and-coming hockey club.

Dickinson, on the other hand, becomes the Oilers new third line center. He's a pending unrestricted free agent making $4.2 million AAV. Edmonton's been on the prowl for a bottom-six center and were linked to several teams, and now turn to the 30-year-old Dickinson, who has appeared in 47 games, chipping in with 13 points, while playing 15:42 per night, including 2:12 on the penalty kill. Dickinson's won only 49% of his faceoffs, and hopes this number jumps after getting settled with his new team.

Don't expect much else out of the Oilers before Friday afternoon's deadline, unless something drastically changes. Giving up a first-round pick to acquire Dickinson is certainly going to be questioned by many, but we'll see how things play out this spring. As for the Blackhawks, GM Kyle Davidson will continue to be involved, and with their cap space and loads of young talent and picks, there's potential another, bigger deal materializes.
