Mammoth Sign Michael Carcone To Multi-Year Extension

Utah Mammoth forward Michael Carcone celebrate a goal

Gritty forward Michael Carcone has had another strong season in the Utah Mammoth bottom-six. The pending unrestricted free agent has now been rewarded by the team with a two-year extension that more than doubles his salary.

The deal has a total value of $3.5 million, with a $1.75M AAV. He is coming off a one-year deal at the minimum $775,000.

Carcone, 30, is an undrafted, strong-skating forward. He ranks in the 99th percentile in Max. Skating Speed, at 23.95 mph, per NHL EDGE statistics. He has popped 14 goals this season in just 12:25 average ice time over his 66 games. He's totaled 26 points and added 117 hits with his 5'9", 182-pound frame.

He has spent his entire five-year career in the NHL with the Mammoth organization, having been signed originally by the Arizona Coyotes in 2021, after spending five years honing his craft in the AHL.

Carcone broke through with 21 goals two years ago, now gets 2-year extension

Carcone's big breakout year came in 2023-24, when he scored 21 goals for the Coyotes in only 11:16 average time on ice. He struggled the following year, but has once again found the net on a semi-regular basis in his role this season.

He has occasionally filled in higher up the lineup when needed, and gets time on the second power play unit.

With his productive season on a very low salary, he's one of the NHL's leaders in cost-per-point.

A nice deal for both Utah and Carcone, keeping him in Salt Lake through the 2027-28 season.
