NHLTR: Edmonton Oilers trading Andrew Mangiapane

The Andrew Mangiapane sweepstakes will be coming to an end over the next 48 hours, as the Edmonton Oilers are engaged in advanced trade talks around the struggling winger.

Mangiapane was recently sent down by the Oilers to the AHL, and only played one shift, just to ensure he 'played' in one game, and is now eligible to be traded. The Oilers want to acquire a third-line center and have interest in Nic Roy and Scott Laughton off the Toronto Maple Leafs, but need to move Mangiapane first, to clear cap space. As it stands right now, the Maple Leafs aren't interested in Mangiapane unless the Oilers send a huge sweetener in the deal.

The 29-year-old winger carries a $3.6 million cap hit through next season, and in his first season with the Oilers, has recorded just seven goals and 14 points in 52 games. He's a former 35-goal scorer who Treliving is very familiar with, so there's some level of sense to a deal here, but again, the Leafs aren't chomping at the bit to do the Oilers any favors.

Don't be surprised to see a struggling team take a flyer on Mangiapane, perhaps the Chicago Blackhawks or Vancouver Canucks.

Keep an eye on the Oilers, two trades coming very soon.
