Two-Time NCAA Goalie of the Year On The Trade Block

He was a Top 5 prospect for the Buffalo Sabres for three years running, but the bloom seems to be off the rose for goaltender Devon Levi in Western New York, once considered the Sabres' goalie of the future.

With a stellar goaltending tandem at the NHL level right now in Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Alex Lyon, the Sabres are soaring and seem set between the pipes. Even unheralded youngster Colten Ellis has moved ahead of Levi on the depth chart.

With that, the Sabres put Levi, 24, on the trade block at the deadline. He wasn't dealt, but according to insider David Pagnotta, he's not off the hook yet.

The Buffalo Sabres were shopping goalie Devon Levi, and are expected to keep those talks going this summer.

Levi should be able to bring back a nice return if they go ahead and trade him. He has a strong prospect pedigree and was a two-time winner of the Mike Richter Award for best NCAA goalie. He recorded a .942 save percentage in 66 games with Northeastern University over two seasons there.

His development since turning pro, however, has hit some bumps in the road. He's appeared in 39 NHL games with the Sabres since 2023 (none this season), and has an .894 Sv% and a 3.29 goals against average. In the AHL, he's been much more successful, with a .916 Sv% and a 2.46 GAA in 106 games with the Rochester Americans. Still just 24, there should be plenty of team interested in him.

Levi was drafted in the 7th round by the Florida Panthers in the 2020 NHL Draft, but his stock really soared after that, with his back-to-back NCAA Goalie of the Year seasons. He was acquired by the Sabres in the huge 2021 trade that saw Sam Reinhart sent to Florida.
