3 Free-Agent Destinations for Red Wings' James van Riemsdyk
The Detroit Red Wings are entering the summer with multiple pending free agents. One of them is veteran forward James van Riemsdyk. The 36-year-old winger proved to be a solid depth addition for the Red Wings this season, as he had 15 goals and 31 points in 72 games.
Yet, with the Red Wings missing the playoffs, they could look to make changes and move on from van Riemsdyk. If the 2007 second-overall pick becomes an unrestricted free agent (UFA), these three teams could look to sign him.
Tampa Bay Lightning
The Lightning could use more scoring in their bottom six, so it would be understandable if they targeted a veteran forward like van Riemsdyk this summer. He could slot nicely on their third line and power play if signed. Yet, even if he served as an extra forward on a cheap one-year deal, that would not be a bad thing for the Bolts.
Los Angeles Kings
The Kings are another team that could take a chance on a veteran forward like van Riemsdyk this offseason. There is no question that they need more depth scoring if they hope to be better in 2026-27, so van Riemsdyk could be a solid player for them to add to their roster this summer.
Colorado Avalanche
The Avalanche should also be watched if van Riemsdyk hits the free-agent market this offseason. He would give their bottom six more scoring and could work well on their second power play unit as a net-front presence. Joining the Avalanche would also give him the chance to play for one of the NHL's biggest contenders.
