3 Goaltenders Expected To Be Traded This Upcoming Offseason
The NHL's trade market is going to be fun to watch this season, and many insiders feel with the rising cap, this summer should see a ton of movement amongst teams.
Specifically in net, there's been some underperformers throughout the league and there's no doubt a few of them are going to be involved in trade talks, and could be wearing new jerseys when training camp opens in September.
Here's three goaltenders who are expected to be traded this upcoming offseason:
Tristan Jarry, Edmonton Oilers
Jarry's experiment in Edmonton has not gone to planned, and there's little doubt he's moved this offseason. He's gotten into it with players in practice, he's struggled when he's started, and frankly, the homecoming hasn't worked out in the least. Jarry's under contract for two more years at $5.3 million AAV, and owns a 12-team no-trade list. In 16 games with the Oilers, Jarry's posted a 8-6-1 record, with a 4.03 GAA and dismal .856 save percentage.
Jesper Wallstedt, Minnesota Wild
With Filip Gustavsson locked in long term, the Wild were offering Wallstedt out ahead of the trade deadline for a top-line winger, but Bill Guerin didn't like what he was being offered. They decided to move David Jiricek instead for Bobby Brink, but this summer, look for more options to present themselves and Wallstedt to be on the move. At 22 years old and a decorated resume already, don't be surprised to see the Wild land a star in return.
Samuel Montembeault, Montreal Canadiens
With Jacob Fowler arriving and Jakob Dobes already an option, expect to see the Canadiens make trade offers at the NHL Draft involving Montembeault. There was a ton of speculation he was being dealt to the St. Louis Blues in a package for Jordan Binnington and Brayden Schenn, but that deal fell through the day before the deadline. Heading into the summer, look for GM Kent Hughes to move Montembeault for some middle-six help up front.
