NHL Rumors: 3 Free-Agent Destinations for Flames' Ryan Lomberg

The Calgary Flames are entering the offseason with multiple pending free agents. One of them is gritty forward Ryan Lomberg. With the Flames rebuilding, it would not be surprising if the Flames let the 31-year-old forward hit the market. If he does, he has the potential to get some interest from teams looking for more grit and toughness in their bottom six.

Because of this, let's take a look at three teams that could try to sign Lomberg if he hits free agency this summer.

Florida Panthers

Lomberg was a key part of the Panthers' bottom six during his time there with the club. With Florida needing more forward depth, it would not be too surprising if they tried to bring back Lomberg on a cheap one-year deal. He could work well on their fourth line again, but could also be good to have around again as an extra forward.

San Jose Sharks

The Sharks could be another team to watch when it comes to Lomberg this offseason. If they signed him, he could fit nicely in their bottom six. With the Sharks looking to take that next step and be a playoff team, bringing in an energy guy who would make them a tougher club to go up against, like Lomberg, would not be a bad thing at all.

Detroit Red Wings

The Red Wings could use a bit more bite in their bottom six, so it is fair to wonder if Lomberg could get their attention. While the Red Wings have bigger needs, like a new top-six center, Lomberg would have the potential to be a nice depth addition to their forward group if signed.
