Significant Update on Maple Leafs’ Pending Executive Hiring
With anywhere up to 10 candidates having been interviewed already, some twice, we're getting a report on Sunday night that the Toronto Maple Leafs' front office executive search is suddenly coming down to the final strokes.
According to insider Frank Seravalli, we’re now just about at “The Finalists” stage:
Sources say the Maple Leafs are advancing to the ‘finalist’ stage of their interview process this week.

No guarantee on timeline but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a new GM in place by the end of the week.
Seravalli says "it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a new GM in place by the end of the week." But whether that's just a GM, just a President of Hockey Operations, or one and the same, remains to be seen.
This is somewhat of a surprise, as there had been some suggestions that the team was willing to wait under later in May to complete their due diligence and make their decision. But other teams with front office openings are moving quickly, and it may be forcing the Leafs' hand.
Recent reports have seemed to indicate that MLSE's first choice was to find one man to run the whole shebang. Also, that legendary Leaf Mats Sundin will be a part of the executive branch, in one way or another.
But as for who the Grand Poobah and/or a co-Poobah might be, we've got a list of 7-10 names that have been put out there, and it includes:
- Mike Gillis
- John Chayka
- Ryan Hardy
- Brandon Pridham
- Ryan Bowness
- Ryan Martin
- Brett Peterson
- Chris Pronger
- Gregory Campbell
- Evan Gold
- Brad Pascall
- Chuck Fletcher
- Peter Chiarelli
...and probably more that haven't made it out into the public.
One of the Leafs' top projected GM candidates, analytics specialist Sunny Mehta, was scooped up by the New Jersey Devils this past week.
It's down to the nitty-gritty, and the choice that MLSE makes this coming week could define this Leafs franchise for the next decade.
