Maple Leafs' Max Domi Out Indefinitely After Post-Surgery Complications

The Toronto Maple Leafs may be starting next season without forward Max Domi.

The Leafs announced on Monday, Domi underwent surgery on an ailment that was bothering him all of last season, and there's been some complications following the procedure. As it stands right now, Domi will be re-evaluated at the start of training camp in September.

Domi, 31, has two seasons left on his contract with the Leafs, paying him $3.7 million AAV. This past season, the versatile forward appeared in 80 games, scoring 12 goals, and adding 24 points for 36 points. Domi averaged 14:52 of ice-time under previous head coach Craig Berube.

There were some reports about Domi's future being uncertain in Toronto, until John Chayka and Mats Sundin took over as the Leafs' new management regime. Sundin is like an Uncle to Domi, meanwhile Chayka worked as his trainer during his time in junior hockey as a member of the OHL's London Knights.

Domi played a lot last season on the Leafs top line alongside Auston Matthews, but is expected to drop down to the third line next season with Gavin McKenna likely heading to Toronto with the first pick in the draft, while also citing some upcoming expected roster additions as Matthews has put pressure on the front office for major changes.

Let's hope Domi is ready for training camp and he recovers through these complications.
