Minnesota Wild Tried To Acquire Yet Another Hughes Brother This Season
The Minnesota Wild made the blockbuster move of the season this year, acquiring Quinn Hughes from the Vancouver Canucks. But GM Bill Guerin didn't stop there according to a report, as he also tried to acquire one of Hughes' brothers, Luke, from the New Jersey Devils.

Both of Quinn's brothers, Luke and Jack, play together in New Jersey. After all the talk over the past year or so about the Devils hoping to unite the three Hughes brothers, according to Michael Russo in The Athletic, the Wild tried, but were obviously unsuccessful, in uniting at least two of them, in Minnesota.
Per league sources, the Wild made a pitch to former Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald to acquire Luke this past season.
Of course, Fitzgerald is no longer with the Devils, so perhaps the Wild will make another pitch. But as Russo rightfully adds, "it seems unlikely that new GM Sunny Mehta’s first move will be trading" one of the Hughes brothers.
Luke, the youngest of the Hughes Bros., just started a new seven-year deal in Jersey this season, with a $9M AAV.
Brother Jack became a national hero a few months ago after scoring the overtime winner for Team USA against Canada in the Olympic Gold Medal game. Mehta certainly wouldn't endear himself to the Devils' faithful if he kicked off his reign by trading either of those guys.
As for Quinn, he said after the Wild were eliminated from the playoffs that he'd be open to re-signing in Minnesota. He's got one year left on his deal. That will be an intriguing situation to watch as he becomes eligible for an extension as of July 1.
Certainly, obtaining Luke in the pitch they made to the Devils would have gone a long way to ensuring that Quinn stays, but that wasn't to be.
