NHLTR Mock Trade: St. Louis Blues deal Jordan Kyrou to Edmonton Oilers

Keep an eye on the Edmonton Oilers and St. Louis Blues this summer.

There's been plenty of speculation the last 12 months over Jordan Kyrou's future in St. Louis, and while trade talks fizzled out before March's deadline, there's a very good chance that the Oilers circle back with a big trade offer around next month's NHL Draft in Buffalo.

Kyrou, 28, is signed through the 2031 season at $8.1 million AAV, and holds a no-trade clause on his contract. There's been some reports he denied a move to the Seattle Kraken ahead of the trade deadline, but a move to play alongside Connor McDavid is very likely one Kyrou approves.

NHLTR Mock Trade: Blues deal Kyrou to the Oilers for 2026 second-round pick, 2028 first-round pick, and Isaac Howard.

If you look back at previous deals for a player of Kyrou's caliber, and resume, three pieces is the going rate. He'd give the Oilers a perfect speedy running mate for McDavid, who can score from the right wing. It also allows for better lineup balance to play Zach Hyman alongside Leon Draisaitl on the second line.

For the Blues, Howard is an immediate plug and play for their lineup, and could play top-nine minutes as early as next season. They acquire two solid draft picks that they can either stock in their cupboards or move out for more assets, or even package.

St. Louis is going to be very active this summer as they continue to retool/rebuild on the fly. Brayden Schenn's gone, Justin Faulk's gone, Colton Parayko was almost gone, and now this offseason, Kyrou, Robert Thomas, and Jordan Binnington are expected to be traded.

As far as Edmonton goes, they have two seasons left of McDavid and must win a Stanley Cup, or else he's not going to re-sign another extension. Adding Kyrou is certainly a lengthy step in the right direction.
