Sharks Could Offer #2 Pick for Maple Leafs' Auston Matthews

Keep an eye on the San Jose Sharks and Toronto Maple Leafs.

The two teams have been linked to a few offseason trade proposals, and one mega-deal could see the Sharks offering their number two overall pick at next month's draft in a package for Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews.

Matthews and the Maple Leafs are not on the same page at the moment, and he's slated to sit down with new general manager John Chayka next week to go over the team's new direction. Matthews has hinted that if the new direction isn't something he's interested in, he's going to ask for a trade this summer.

The Sharks have everything the Maple Leafs would want in a package when you're dealing your best player. They could offer the #2 pick, along with Michael Misa and Sam Dickinson. This would give the Leafs three core pieces to build around, and they'd also have the number one pick as well, which is likely going to be Gavin McKenna.

So far, Ivar Stenberg, a two-way prospect from Sweden who lit up the SHL this season, and Chase Reid, an OHL defenceman, who has some Cale Makar in him have been the two prospects most discussed behind McKenna.

Leafs Nation - if Matthews demands a trade, makes sense to move him out west, no?
