Hurricanes Hand Out Multi-Year Extension To Pending UFA

Carolina Hurricanes center Mark Jankowski celebrates a goal

The Carolina Hurricanes have earned themselves a long break before the Eastern Conference Final. With the entire week to get ready for their next opponent, the team decided to get some off-ice business done by re-signing pending unrestricted free agent forward Mark Jankowski to a two-year extension.

It's a two-year, $3.7 million deal, with a $1.85 million AAV. That's a $1 million raise for the 30-year-old fourth-liner, who was earning $800,000 on his deal that's expiring at the end of the season.

“Mark has been an excellent fit for our organization throughout his time here,” said GM Eric Tulsky. “He’s proven he can contribute in different ways, and we are glad he’s chosen to remain with the organization.”

Jankowski rewarded with big raise by the Hurricanes for excellent production out of the 4th line

Jankowski came to Raleigh at the trade deadline in 2025 from the Nashville Predators. He contributed eight goals in 19 games. He's continued to provide some secondary scoring as a fourth-liner, recording 11 goals and 10 assists for 21 points in 68 games this past season. The defensive-minded pivot also posted a plus/minus of +7.

The big-bodied (6'4", 200 lbs) two-way forward uses his size to win battles along the boards, and down low in the offensive zone.

In 482 career NHL games, he has 145 points and a +14, averaging 12:12 time on ice per game. Janksowski has also suited up with the Calgary Flames, Pittsburgh Penguins, Buffalo Sabres, and Nashville Predators.

He was originally selected by the Calgary Flames in the first round, 21st overall, at the 2012 NHL Draft.
