Elliotte Friedman is reporting that the deal is Nemec and young Russian Maxim Tsyplakov to Calgary in return for two first-rounders (2027 & 2028) and a second-round pick (35th overall) this year, in addition to 21-year-old d-man Etienne Morin. It's a pretty nice haul for GM Sunny Mehta in his first big move with the Devils.
It's also a nice bet for Calgary to make in its rebuild, adding a young blueliner with a lot of upside and a high prospect pedigree.
The 22-year-old right-shot d-man, Nemec was the second overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft. He's a restricted free agent, and according to a report from Chris Johnston, there is no new contract extension in place with Calgary at the time of the trade.
Nemec posted the best offensive stats of his career this past season, though it still ended in disappointing overall numbers of 11 goals and 26 points, while logging 19:40 of ice time per night. He began the year with a strong start to the 2025-26 season, with seven points in his first nine games, but had only 11 points in the second half of the year.
