The writing has been on the wall for some time. The Toronto Maple Leafs' longest-tenured player, Morgan Rielly, is poised to be heading out of town, as he has officially submitted his approved trade teams list to team management.

Insider Pierre LeBrun told the crew on TSN's Overdrive that it's a Western-team-dominated list.

“Morgan Rielly, as Jonas Siegel reported last week, is open to a move," said LeBrun. "My sense is that teams like San Jose and Anaheim would be high on his list of destinations. Certainly, I know for a fact, he sent a Western Conference heavy list, suggested list to the Leafs... so we’ll see what the Leafs will do with that”.

Tuesday morning, insider Chris Johnston said that he expects a Rielly trade to go down perhaps this week.

"This would be the week where they look to get it done, because it answers a lot of questions about the team's cap space and other moves they can make beyond it," said Johnston.

Why Morgan Rielly will be the next one to move on Leafs blueline

New GM John Chayka is remaking the Toronto blueline this offseason in a big way, having made two trades in the last week. The acquisition of Emil Andrae from the Philadelphia Flyers was just an appetizer to the big fish he brought in a couple of days later, completing a sign-and-trade for Darren Raddysh, who was set to be the top UFA defenseman on the market.

Raddysh will be the puck-moving, power play quarterback that Rielly was always supposed to be for this team, but hasn't resembled in any way for the past few seasons.

Rielly was taken off the top power-play unit some time ago, as his offense has fallen off over the years, down to a full-season 10-year low of 36 points this past campaign.

The 32-year-old has a full no-movement clause, but after 13 seasons in Toronto, has finally capitulated and agreed that it's time to move on. He still has four years left on his contract at a $7.5 million cap hit. It's possible that the Leafs may need to retain a bit of that to get a deal done.

The San Jose Sharks and Anaheim Ducks have been floated recently as likely destinations, as both teams are in dire need of filling out their bluelines with a seris of pending UFA defections.

In addition to Rielly, Brandon Carlo is another potential trade candidate on the Leafs' blueline.
