The Ottawa Senators have made their first move of the post-Brady Tkachuk era on Tuesday afternoon. The Sens have swung a deal with the San Jose Sharks to acquire forward William Eklund.
So the Sens trade one of the first-rounders they got in the Brady Tkachuk deal, sending the 9th overall pick in Friday's draft, in return for Eklund, Kasper Halttunen, and the rights to Brandon Svoboda.

Eklund, the 23-year-old playmaking forward, finished with 15 goals and 53 points in 78 games this past season with San Jose, playing in their top six. As Elliotte Friedman notes, the Senators were focused on landing a talented, young, offensively skilled player, and they got one in Eklund.

"William is a dynamic and skilled forward, who plays with a competitive edge. We are excited to welcome him to the Senators organization and he will fit in well with our core group of players," said Senators GM Steve Staios.

Eklund already comes armed with a new three-year extension that begins next season, with a $5.6 million AAV.

The trade gives the Sharks two picks in the top 10 of the draft.

And as Sharks' beat writer Curtis Pashelka notes, this trade reunites Eklund with his good friend from Sweden, Fabian Zetterlund, who just completed his first full season in Ottawa.

Additionally, all signs are now pointing to the Sharks selecting another Swede with the No. 2 overall pick in the Draft, Ivar Stenberg, to replace Eklund.
