NHL Trade: Maple Leafs Trade Samuel Ersson

The Toronto Maple Leafs have dipped into their goaltending depth to make another trade. They've sent pending restricted free agent goalie Samuel Ersson to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft.

No, this is not a trade that will change the course of the Leafs' future, but it is turning an asset that they had no use for into a bit of extra draft capital.

Ottawa now has Ersson's signing rights.

The former Philadelphia Flyers netminder certainly did not have a good season with the Flyers, ranking near the bottom of the league in most metrics. He was 59th in save percentage with an .870 mark.

But he had a couple of decent seasons prior to that, enough possibly that he could turn it around and be a passable backup for Linus Ullmark. That was one of the Senators' priorities this offseason.

More to come...
