Sabres Offering Numerous Players As Trade Talks On Hellebuyck Continue With Jets
It sounded like a potential trade of Connor Hellebuyck to the Buffalo Sabres fell through in advance of the NHL Draft. But those talks with the Winnipeg Jets are back on, and there are some substantial names being thrown around from Buffalo's side as a potential player package going back.
We have heard that Hellebuyck is fine to waive his no-move clause to go to Buffalo, but what are the pieces that would have to head back to Winnipeg? David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reports:
Multiple sources suggest the two teams continue to have trade negotiations, though it's unclear if a pathway to a deal can be mapped out.The Sabres are believed to be willing to include an assortment of assets that may include some of the likes of goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, Jack Quinn, Radim Mrtka, Ryan McLeod and Konsta Helenius.
Those are some serious names. Helenius and Mrtka are the Sabres' top two prospects, while Quinn is a former 8th overall pick by Buffalo and is coming off his best season by far, with 20 goals and 51 points.
The Jets have been looking to add a second-line center and a top-six winger in any deal for the NHL's best goalie, so that's where Helenius, coming off an excellent season in the AHL, and Quinn would come in to play.
The 33-year-old Hellebuyck still has five years remaining on his contract with an $8.5 million AAV. He's a three-time Vezina Trophy winner, a Hart Trophy winner, and an Olympic gold medalist.
