3 Toronto Maple Leafs Trade Candidates As Changes Continue

John Chayka has made significant changes to the Toronto Maple Leafs roster heading into next season, and it sounds like the new general manager is far from finished. Chayka continues to discuss trades with multiple teams, and there's a very good chance the Leafs make another move, or two, before the start of training camp in September.

Chayka has already dealt Nick Robertson, Brandon Carlo, Joseph Woll, Simon Benoit, and let Matias Maccelli and Calle Jarnkrok walk. There's been plenty of chatter around the Leafs trade market recently, here's three players to keep an eye on as potential trade candidates.

Morgan Rielly

It sounds like right now there's a 50/50 shot Rielly doesn't start next season in Toronto. Chayka asked the Leafs defenceman for a list of teams he'd approve a trade to, as he owns a full no-movement clause. and Rielly submitted four western conference teams. While the Vancouver Canucks have reached out, they wanted Chayka to retain some of Rielly's $7.5 million salary for the remainder of his contract, and Chayka wasn't interested. If Rielly does get moved, don't expect to see Chayka pay a premium.

Dakota Joshua

Joshua had a terrible first season in Toronto, battling injuries and an inconsistent role under former head coach Craig Berube.  The only issue is, Joshua brings some size, toughness, and physicality to the Leafs lineup, and with the new additions of Colton Sissons, Teddy Blueger and Brandon Duhaime, the Leafs can do without Joshua. The rugged winger has two years left on his contract at $3.2 million AAV, and owns a 12-team no-trade clause.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson

If Rielly doesn't get dealt before next season, OEL could be. There's been significant trade interest in the Swedish blueliner this summer, and if Chayka is blown away by an offer, there's certainly a good chance he'd accept. OEL is under contract for two more years at just $3.5 million, so Chayka's certainly not in any rush to pull the trigger on a move, but again, if the offers are too good to pass up, he may have no other choice.
