Dallas Stars Efforting Trade Of RFA Mavrik Bourque

With pending restricted free agent Mavrik Bourque a legitimate offer sheet candidate, the Dallas Stars are efforting to make a proactive move by trading him before the 12 noon ET opening of free agency—and offer sheet season—begins.

"There's been some serious trade activity in the last little bit," said insider David Pagnotta, and he says "if this does happen, he'll be traded out East."

Insider Marco D'Amico has indicated that he's "hearing lots of noise around the Philadelphia Flyers" with respect to Bourque.

A first-round pick in 2020, Bourque, now 24, is starting to approach the promise that he held, as he registered 20 goals and 41 points in 82 games last season, while averaging 15:29 of ice time per night.

The Stars have a serious cap crunch, however, with just $9.2 million in cap space, and still hoping to find a way to re-sign RFA Jason Robertson.

If the Stars are able to arrange for a trade of their All-Star forward Robertson, then their cap situation is alleviated, and they'll have room to re-sign Bourque.

Something to keep an eye on as the day progresses.
