Flyers' Extension Talks With Jamie Drysdale Hit A Speed Bump

Now that the Leo Carlsson thing is over with, the Flyers still have $29.5 million in cap space to work with this summer. And they've got at least two important extensions to get done asap. Both Trevor Zegras and Jamie Drysdale are restricted free agents without a contract for next season. They have both filed for arbitration this summer.

As for Drysdale, David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reported last week that Philly was getting close to a deal with Drysdale, but he updated that on Thursday, and now says there's a pretty sizeable gap between the two sides.
I thought they were getting close. The numbers being thrown out were 4 (years) by $6.25 million... But I think the player's side is looking for more than that. Quite a decent amount more than that. Especially with some of the numbers being thrown out. There's a little happy medium that's going to have to happen there.

Of course, Flyers GM Danny Briere is as much accountable as anyone for 'some of the numbers being thrown out.' That $18M AAV offer sheet to the Anaheim Ducks' Carlsson likely has the Drysdale camp (and the Zegras camp, for that matter, and Matvei Michkov!) figuring their worth has just gone up.

Both Drysdale and Zegras, ironically, were acquired from the Ducks in previous trades, and both have worked their way into key positions on the depth chart in Philly. Zegras is a second-line center while Drysdale is a top-four defenseman.

Briere might have to pay the piper a little here going forward after his bully offer sheet to Carlsson fell through.

Meanwhile, Flyers' analysts and insiders discussed what Briere's next moves would be after the Carlsson drama.
