Flyers GM Looking To Add 'Big-Time Player' For Power Play
The Philadelphia Flyers were stymied in their attempt to land top young center Leo Carlsson after the massive $18M AAV offer sheet they signed him to was matched by the Anaheim Ducks. But that, apparently, does not mean that GM Danny Briere is done trying to make a splashy move.
"We'd like to. We'd like to improve that if we could, but that's usually a game changer that we're talking about. I'm hoping that the young players, you know, (Porter) Martone, (Alex) Bump, (Denver) Barkey, maybe (David) Jiricek, I'm hoping that eventually, as they get more comfortable, that they help improve the power play," Briere said.Daniel Briere on potentially adding a big-name player to improve the Philadelphia Flyers' power play:

"I don't want to bring in just a strict power-play specialist that will sit on the fourth line and block some of the young guys. But if we have the chance to improve the power play with a big-time player, yes, we are looking at that."
Fixing Flyers' dead-last power play is imperative: 'We're looking at things'
The Flyers' power play finished dead last in the NHL this past season (15.7%) and has done so four times in the past five years.
"We took some swings there, too," Briere said. "I unfortunately can't get into details because players are elsewhere, but we took some swings there."
Philly still has just under $14 million in cap space remaining, even after re-signing RFAs Trevor Zegras and Jamie Drysdale last week, and the GM has no qualms about using it if he can.
"We're looking to do different things. I'm not saying it's going to work, but yeah, there's different things we're looking at that might eat up our salary cap."
It certainly doesn't sound like Briere is done with his team this offseason just yet.
