The right-shot D-man has one year remaining on a six-year deal with a $4.4M cap hit. He was eligible for an extension as of July 1. He'll get a nice raise after setting career highs with 32 assists and 36 points, along with a rousing plus/minus rating of +43, which places him in the top 5 in the NHL.
He'll be 38 when the deal expires in 2035. There are only three other players in the league who are signed through '35, Eetu Luostarinen of the Florida Panthers, the Montreal Canadiens' Ivan Demidov, and Tyson Foerster of the Philadelphia Flyers.
Marino could be one of the last players in the league to secure an eight-year deal, as on September 15th, the new CBA rules go into effect, limiting contract extensions with a player's own team to seven years (six years if signing as a free agent with another team).
Marino is a seven-year NHL veteran, acquired by the Mammoth in the 2024 offseason in a trade with the New Jersey Devils. In 443 career games, the right-shot D-man has 23 goals, 157 points and a plus-82 rating while skating an average of 20:41 ice time per game.
As noted by JFresh, Marino, a 6'1", 200-pound blueliner is a two-way player who can move the puck, and is also an underrated breakout passer, possessing great awareness.
