Free-Agent Stuart Skinner to Sign With 1 of 2 Teams
Stuart Skinner hits the open market on Wednesday and there's going to be plenty of interest. It's been a whirlwind couple of seasons for Skinner, so look for him to seek a multi-year deal, with some job security.
Skinner, 27, is coming off a season split between the Edmonton Oilers and Pittsburgh Penguins, as he was moved for Tristan Jarry mid-season, in a trade that didn't work out for either side. Skinner appeared in 27 games for the Penguins, posting a 12-9-5 record, along with a .885 save percentage.
With a light free-agent market for goalies, Skinner, and his Stanley Cup Final experience is going to peek the interest of several teams, but there's two that Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman has linked to free agency:
Stuart Skinner: If Hellebuyck is traded, Winnipeg makes the most sense. Otherwise, I’d take a shot if I was the Mammoth. They need to lighten Karel Vejmelka’s load.
Connor Hellebuyck is expected to be traded to the Buffalo Sabres or New Jersey Devils this week, so Skinner could certainly be on their radar. The Mammoth want to land a tandem partner for Vejmelka and Skinner is the type of proven winner that Utah is looking to add to their dressing room.
A reunion to Edmonton is off the table, so don't expect to see Skinner, or the Oilers circle back. The Toronto Maple Leafs are expected to add a goalie on Wednesday, but Sergei Bobrovsky seems to be their top priority at the moment, but if talks fall through, don't be surprised to see the Leafs contact Skinner on his contract demands.
