Free-Agent Mason Marchment Linked to 4 Teams

Mason Marchment is a free agent on Wednesday, and the rugged winger is going to have several contract offers to consider. There's been plenty of speculation brewing about his future, as Marchment brings a rare combination of scoring ability and toughness to the lineup, each and every night.

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman had the latest on Marchment and opened up on some potential free-agent destinations once the market opens at noon:
Mason Marchment: There was a lot of interest. Montreal, I think Toronto. Someone made a great point that a sentimental favourite might be San Jose, longtime NHL home of his late father Bryan. The two were extremely close.

We can confirm the Maple Leafs are interested and are expected to present a contract offer. The same can be said about the Pittsburgh Penguins, a team that Friedman didn't have listed. Kyle Dubas is a massive fan of Marchment's game and knows him from back in their Toronto days. Dubas admits Marchment is the one trade he'd like to take back, as the then Leafs GM moved Marchment to the Florida Panthers for Denis Malgin.

Marchment is one of the best power forwards on the market, and if the Maple Leafs trade Matthew Knies for Zach Werenski, Marchment would step in among the top six, and play a very similar role to what Knies provided for the Leafs.

The Sharks are the feel good story here. They have money to burn, they have a young, exciting lineup, and they are going to be very aggressive on the free-agent market this summer. GM Mike Grier will be busy and could see Marchment as a bit of a security blanket for his young forwards, and a player that won't be shy sticking up for his teammates. Mason spent a lot of time in San Jose over the years, and could be going back to his roots.
