Report: Red Wings & Stars Discussing Blockbuster Trade
This NHL offseason has already been one of the more entertaining summers on record, and there's plenty of other storylines to follow. Free agency is opening, but all the attention has been on the trade market, and it sounds like there's a blockbuster closing in.
According to multiple reports, the Detroit Red Wings and Dallas Stars have engaged in blockbuster trade conversations centered around Dylan Larkin and Jason Robertson. Larkin wants out of Detroit, meanwhile Robertson wants to be paid like a superstar, so there' could be a match made in heaven for both clubs.
Robertson's already vetoed trades to the Seattle Kraken and St. Louis Blues, and while he wants to remain a Star, he's not doing a great job of showing it. Robertson wants to be paid as close to $15 million AAV as he can get, and turned down a $125 million contract from the Kraken last week.
Larkin on the other hand, has been at odds with Steve Yzerman for years and isn't happy with the lack of moves from the Detroit executive. Larkin requested a trade a few weeks ago, but Yzerman's made it clear he's not going to give in to a bad trade offer.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman recently commented on the latest for Larkin and Robertson, and had this to say:
Dylan Larkin: Steve Yzerman would rather make no trade than what he thinks is a bad trade. Jason Robertson: Wants Dallas to budge. Don’t see it now. My guess is they go to arbitration. Unless Yzerman decides he’s the best option for Larkin.
We'll see where the day takes us, but don't be shocked to see this mega-deal go down on day one of free agency.
