Report: Dallas Stars & Detroit Red Wings Discussing Blockbuster Deal
The Dallas Stars have been dealing with a Jason Robertson problem this offseason, and after two failed trade attempts, the Stars management team has been busy trying to find a potential trade partner, while also negotiating a contract with the restricted free-agent forward. There's been multiple reports stating the Stars are willing to trade Robertson to the Detroit Red Wings straight up for Dylan Larkin.
Both teams have had conversations with a variety of teams recently, and Red Wings' general manager Steve Yzerman has made it clear as day, he's not going to give Larkin away for nothing, just on the sole fact Larkin's requested a trade out of Motown. Landing a prolific goal scorer in Robertson, would be a huge get for Yzerman.
Fourth Period: The Stars are believed to be willing to move restricted free agent sniper Jason Robertson to Detroit for Dylan Larkin (7/11)
The only snag here is the fact Robertson may not be open to signing a long-term deal in Detroit, which would mean Yzerman may not be interested in giving up Larkin for potentially one year of Robertson. The 26-year-old winger is one year away from unrestricted free agency.
Robertson's vetoed trades to Seattle and St. Louis, so we'll have to see if the Red Wings can pull this off. If it isn't Detroit, look for Robertson to be dealt to the Pittsburgh Penguins, and reunite with his brother Nick, who just signed a two-year deal with the Pens.
As for Detroit, if Larkin isn't dealt to the Stars, the Wild, Hurricanes, Golden Knights, and potentially the Devils are on Larkin's approval list, as Yzerman and company have quite the mess on their hands in Motown.
